Pete Davidson’s “The King of Staten Island” was withdrawn without reason – and mysteriously – from last week’s drive-in cinema, report Variety.

The semi-autobiographical film, which offers comics about SNL star’s childhood, Pete Davidson in the borough, was released Friday for video only.

“There is no explanation,” from Universal, one of the drive-in theater owners told the outlet. “They changed their minds.”

Another theater owner told Variety, “This caused a number of bad intentions with customers who bought tickets online to appear on Thursday at 7 pm. show me. “

Director Judd Apatow took to Twitter last week to tell fans who are eager that they have to wait until Friday to watch the film – at home.

“KING ISLAND STATEN ONLY OPENS IN FRIDAY VOD. NOT THE OPENING IN THEATER. “

“Insiders” at Universal blame change for internal misunderstanding, said Variety.

“The King of Staten Island” has always been intended for premiere exclusively on request, however, some executives inadvertently ordered this film in about 100 theaters, “an unnamed source was quoted as explaining.

“When they realized the mistake, the studio returned to the cinema and asked them not to play it.”

This is not the first time Universal has taken films from theater owners.

In April the studio decided to release the release of “Trolls World Tour” to all theaters and instead send it directly Video-on-demand. Costs hundreds of major movie houses in ticket sales.
