Twenty-five people suspected of belonging to a group specializing in bank robberies were killed this Sunday during a police operation in the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil.

A federal police source told AFP that “25 criminals were killed and not injured.”

The operation, organized jointly with the military police, took place in the commune of Varginha. Security forces raided two farms, where “members of a criminal organization specializing in bank robbery and ATMs” were preparing to attack several bank branches in the city.

In one house, “18 people” were killed in a shootout with police, and seven people were killed in an attack in second place, a police source said.

During the operation, a large number of weapons (shotguns, grenades, ammunition), body armor, uniforms and several stolen vehicles were seized.

In recent years, there have been several robberies in Brazil with the same modus operandi as the gang planned: careful planning, heavy weapons, and medium cities as targets ensured serious bank robberies and an easier escape than in big cities.

In August, heavily armed attackers spread terror in the center of Arasatuba, a city of 200,000 in the state of São Paulo, using drones, explosives and placing hostages on the roofs of their vehicles to protect them during the escape. three persons.
