The OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone was unveiled on July 22, 2021 as the latest mid-range offering from the Chinese manufacturer under the auspices of OPPO. Unfortunately, one of the first devices on the phone caught fire, eventually charring and causing great harm to the user.

The incident took place in India, in particular in Bengalar, resulting in a frightened accident with a burning mobile device. According to Ankura Sharma’s testimony via Twitter, his wife ended up being hit in an accident due to a battery explosion and shock caused by the incident.

The OnePlus phone only had five days when the incident happened at 6 a.m., Sharma said.

Through Twitter, in a post that was deleted, he mentions that his wife was cycling with her new OnePlus Nord 2 when suddenly an explosion started coming from the phone, followed by smoke.

Unfortunately, his wife had an accident, losing control of the motorcycle she was riding due to the noise caused by the phone. Before the event, the device had to be in a shoulder bag in normal working order.

Based on the images posted by Ankur Sharma, we can point to the catastrophic failure of the battery pack in this smartphone as a potential cause of the accident. In particular, a structural failure in the battery that caused a short circuit in the device.

The battery is the most likely cause of this explosion.

Photos posted on Twitter and collected by the publication LetsGoDigital show us the deplorable state of the Chinese brand’s smartphone. The rear part was completely destroyed, as well as the front panel and display from the phone.

In addition, the display shows signs of severe thermal damage, characteristic of the destruction of the battery structure, resulting in a short circuit or even a small fire. The structure still folds from the inside, which is typical for an explosion.

After posting on Twitter, OnePlus will contact the respective owner immediately regretting what happened and wanting to investigate the cause of the incident and compensate the user for the damage suffered.

It should also be noted that following OnePlus exposure and response, the relevant user deleted tweet

The energy elements of our mobile devices, including smartphones, are always the most volatile element. A poorly assembled block or poorly designed battery will be enough to pierce it and create a situation like the one shown here.

On the other hand, at the moment there is nothing to predict more incidents with the new OnePlus Nord 2, this is an isolated case. In any event, we will be closely following the development of this case and the findings of the investigation launched by OnePlus.

Finally, the possibility of misuse of the mobile device is currently ruled out, since it was not used at the time of the incident and is stored in the user’s wallet.
