The Haitian authorities announced on Sunday the arrest of one of the alleged mentors in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, a Florida-based doctor Christian Emmanuel Sanon.

“When the bandits’ advance was blocked, the first person they called was Emmanuel Sanon,” Haitian National Police Director General Leon Charles told reporters, stating that the motive for the crime was “political”.

Police are also investigating two other suspected killers who have been in contact with Sanon, but whose identities have not been released.

At the same time, the police have taken “precautions” against those responsible for the president’s security and are collecting information to determine “the degree of everyone’s involvement.”

According to the investigation, Sanon contacted a US-based Venezuelan security company to recruit members of the team that allegedly committed the murder.

Sanon arrived in Haiti on a private flight in early June, accompanied by several Colombian mercenaries he had hired to provide security.

Later, the “mission changed”, and one of the Colombians was presented with an arrest warrant for the president of the republic. “The operation started from there,” Charles said.

Sanon is the third Haitian arrested in the case, along with 18 other Colombians accused of involvement in the team that allegedly attacked Hovenel Moses’ home on Wednesday.

Five other Colombians are on the run, and three have died in a shootout with police from Wednesday to Thursday in different parts of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
