NYC shooting increased after the NYPD anti-crime unit was disbanded

The shooting surged this week in New York City, with 27 incidents and 36 victims reported since Monday – the day the NYPD disbanded its anti-crime unit in plain clothes, The Post learned on Friday.

In comparison, the same week last year there were only 12 shootings for the whole week.

“This is what politicians want – there is no guarantee, no one at Rikers, the police do not arrest anyone,” an angry law enforcement source said on Friday.

“All these things are the same as people walking on the streets with guns, shooting at each other.”

The shootings included at least four murders, sources told The Post.

One murder occurred Monday at 10 pm on Franklin Avenue in The Bronx, where a 34-year-old man was shot dead in the back and hip; the second shooting victim in the scene was hospitalized.

There was another Wednesday morning murder outside the Brooklyn party, where a Queens man, Jomo Glasgow, 35, was shot dead in the body in front of a house party on East 49th Street near Snyder Avenue.

The dying victim had managed to drag himself around the block before it collapsed, police said. The second victim, a man in his 30s, was shot in the ass outside the same party.

Members of the NYPD anti-crime unit were transferred to uniformed patrol duty on Monday – part of what Police Commissioner Dermot Shea called a “seismic” change affecting some 600 police.

The dissolution of the unit came nearly six years after one of the plainclothes police officers killed Eric Garner with a chokehold, triggering the call “I can’t breathe” for the brutal demonstrators.

This week’s shootings include incidents starting at 3am Wednesday morning in Jamaica, Queens. A 29-year-old man there suffered chest injuries and gunfire on the right shoulder.

On Thursday evenings, there are at least five shootings in Brooklyn.

At 7:30 pm on Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York, a 30-year-old man was shot in his chin.

At 9:24 pm on East 93rd Street in Brownsville, a 36-year-old man was shot.

At 10:23 pm on Albany Avenue in Crown Heights, a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm and leg.

At 10:30 pm on Bushwick Avenue and Cornelia Street in Bushwick, a 27-year-old man was shot in the arm.

Just before midnight, on Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Gates Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg.

The shooting continues into the morning of Friday.

At 1:30 am, a 26-year-old man appeared at the Jamaican Hospital in Queens with a gunshot wound to the right leg.

At 2:40 pm Friday on the Upper West Side, a 20-year-old man was shot in the left heel at the Wise Towers housing project on West 90th Street.

There have been 97 shootings so far this month, compared to 89 for the whole of June last year.
