NYC holds a summer parade, street shows are postponed until September 30

City Hall put bullshit on the summer parade and street season on Thursday, extending the closure of the Big Apple coronavirus from a massive public meeting until at least September 30.

“Because New York has begun the reopening process, open space that is accessible is more important than ever,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement released late Thursday.

“Although I feel sad to cancel some of the events that the city loves, our focus must now be the priority of urban space for public use and continuation of social distance.”

That includes large parades such as the West American Indian Carnival Day on the Brooklyn Labor Day weekend, the Dominican Day Parade in downtown Manhattan and the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy.

Officials will not issue permits for events that could disrupt the city’s ‘Open Roads’ or ‘Open Restaurants’ programs, which close roads to car traffic to give New Yorkers more room for social distances and eating places and a bar to expand their open space seating.

In addition, Hizzoner said that his administration would also refuse all permits for events in the park that would “unreasonably reduce public use”, street exhibitions, events larger than a block or for meetings that needed a sound system.

City Hall will refund or delay the fees paid in connection with a rejected permit.
