The launch of the channel is subject to the permission of the media regulator for rebranding TVI24, a process in which a Queluz station is already working with a regulator media… It will be CNN’s second Portuguese-speaking channel since the launch of CNN Brasil on March 15 last year.

For the channel to become viable, the station will have to build a new information studio, as TVI24 currently uses the same space as TVI’s lunch and evening news broadcasts. It is this investment that will dictate the date when CNN Portugal can air. TVI will also recruit journalists, Mario Ferreira said at the time, what will be done with invitations to participants and by nominating candidates.

TVI24 currently has an audience share of 1.4%, positioning itself on national news channels almost half a point ahead of RTP3, but one point behind SIC Notícias and four below CMTV.
