No. 10 Notre Dame is a full member of the ACC for the 2020 season. He can even participate in an ACC championship game. The thought of a fighter Irishman winning the conference and then becoming an independent player again makes me giggle, and the path to those possible laughs begins in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday against Duke. The two teams met last season in Durham, North Carolina, when the Irish defeated the Blue Devils in a 38-7 win. Of course, the last time Duke came to South Bend was in 2016, he beat Notre Dame 38-35. What can we expect on Saturday?
Well, this is difficult to understand. But while Notre Dame lost most of its 2019 team’s core production, it does have Ian Buck returning as quarterback. While it’s always nice to have experience in QB, it’s not crazy to think that the start of the 2020 season could be even more important than ever before, given how little training time the teams have had this offseason. Meanwhile, Duke has the transfer QB Chase Bryce ready to take on the offense he fought last season. Most likely, Duke’s offense will not be active yet, but we must not lose sight of Duke’s defense led by defender Chris Rumph.
