NOS says it “won the auction” and invested 165 million euros.

The 5G auction is finally over! As we have already mentioned, 1,727 rounds were held, for which the state could attract 566.802 million euros.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing (MIH) has already arrived to congratulate the end of the 5G auction, and operator NOS has said it is “the winner of the auction.”


NOS acquired all possible spectrum to explore new 5G technology

MIH today welcomed the completion of the 5G auction, warning that bidders “will be required to comply with the obligations set out in the auction regulations,” namely insurance. MIH later states that "Anacom will now need to complete a process in accordance with the regulations, which will culminate in the transfer of use rights to bidders."

The NOS operator calls himself "Auction winner" who invested more than 165 million. In a statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), the NOS operator states that "with a global investment of € 165,091,000, NOS acquired all possible spectrum for the new 5G technology: 100 MHz in the 3.6 GHz band and 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz band, also acquiring 2x5 MHz in the 2100 MHz band and 2x2 MHz in the band 900 MHz. group".

NOS “is in line with the goals set out in its strategy for the fifth generation of mobile networks, thereby guaranteeing the best conditions for delivering a high-quality network throughout the country,” as stated in the statement.

The regulator has scheduled a press conference for the 5G auction this Thursday at 11:00.

5G will provide 10 times faster speeds than 4G for the same amount of data. As stated, 5G will not be the Internet for the end user ... but also. 5G enables a highly resilient response to critical emergency services such as industrial applications (Industry 4.0), autonomous vehicles, remote offices or emergency services.
