Nintendo intends to translate all games into Portuguese – JBox

In an interview with Enemy, Bill van ZillSenior Director and General Manager for Latin America Nintendo of Americasaid the company’s goal is to translate all content (possibly on Nintendo Switch and future consoles) into Portuguese, but it’s a labor-intensive process: “We are looking to increase the number of games in Brazilian Portuguese. We start with games with a larger audience, but our goal is to localize all our content, but this also takes time.”

The company releases some games with an option in our language – for example, Mario Strikers: Fighting League, Nintendo Switch Sportse Mario party superstars. Judging by the statement, it’s not a coincidence that they are all popular games and not niche games.

Recently, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was translation campaign into our language, but the reaction of the company was negative. Van Zill did not promise to translate any specific titles.

He also says the company’s intention now is to stay here for the long haul, and that they didn’t have “the right business model” in the past – among the challenges, he cites Anatel’s need for electronic product approval, the plug and the TV rating process as barriers to countries.
