New Fiat 500 Red debuts with glove compartment that kills 99% of viruses and bacteria

A Fiat announced its entire Red line, and the new 500 was no longer a novelty in and of itself. Introduced in September 2021, this year it has a unique and very useful specification these days: the “disinfecting glove box”.

This new system works through a UV lamp. According to tests carried out in the laboratory, irradiation with a UV lamp from the first second and from a distance of two centimeters can destroy more than 99% of viruses and bacteria on the open surface of products.

The UV-C lamp is located inside the glove box and helps to disinfect the surface of open objects, be it your cell phone, keys or wallet.

Simply place your personal belongings in the glove box, close it and turn on the system by pressing the dedicated button on the center console. An external blue light and a beep will prompt you when the 3 minute irradiation cycle is complete.

The Fiat 500 Red is available in two body styles: a hatchback and a convertible with a black top. It also has two engine options, both electric: the first is 70 kW (95 hp) with a range of up to 193 kilometers (WLTP cycle), and the second with 87 kW (118 hp) and a range of up to 300. km. (WLTP cycle).
