Streaming platform Netflix has increased the cost of its plans in Portugal. Disney + and Amazon Prime have already done the same.

Netflix announced this month an increase in the cost of plans available in the national market. The streaming platform increases the cost of monthly payments in several countries such as the US and Brazil. Portugal did not run away either.

The standard plan increases € 1 to € 11.99 per month. The Premium Plan, a service that allows you to watch content simultaneously on four devices, costs between € 13.99 and € 15.99 per month. The basic plan is the only one that doesn’t change. The monthly fee remains at 7.99 euros.

The promotion will apply to new subscribers immediately and apply to current subscribers, whose account will increase in the coming weeks.

“Current subscribers will be notified by email and through the Netflix app one month before the new prices are applied. The exact schedule will depend on the specific billing cycle of each subscriber, ”said in a statement released by Netflix.

Investment in national production

The streaming platform justifies the rise in prices with investments to improve content and the platform itself, as well as investments in national production, as in the case of the Glória series produced by SP Televisão and RTP. Also this year, in collaboration with the Portuguese Film Academy, the Netflix Call was launched, open to Portuguese women, directors, screenwriters and producers.

“We continue to invest in great stories from Portugal and around the world to provide the best entertainment for all of our viewers. Our price changes reflect this approach. We offer a range of plans so that people can choose the one that suits them best, so that as many people as possible can enjoy our content, ”says Netflix.

However, a report by Wells Frgo analyst Stephen Kahall, published by The Hollywood Reporter, argues that this will not be the real reason for the increase in value in different countries.

The analyst says Netflix’s revenue growth is starting to depend more on rising plan prices than on the growth in subscribers, which already exceeds 200 million worldwide.

Netflix wasn’t the only streaming platform to drive up tuition costs in recent times. Disney + raised prices just three months after arriving in Portugal, rising from € 6.99 to € 8.99 per month.

Amazon Prime also decided to raise its price in a month. All of his services now cost € 5.99, an increase of € 2 in June.

HBO is not changing its values, but the arrival of HBO Max in our country also portends an increase in costs.
