The assailant of the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a list of people to attack and entered her residence with several items to restrain her.

The local press this Monday provided some details of the incident, which took place on the night of Thursday to Friday and ended with 82-year-old Paul Pelosi being hospitalized after being attacked with a hammer.

Police sources close to the investigation told CBS News that the assailant, identified as David Depape, 42, planned to attack more people because he had a list of possible targets.

Television station CNN also released some details of the case in recent hours, which indicate that the assailant intended to keep Nancy Pelosi in custody at his residence as he had a bag with multiple armbands and duct tape.

Paul Pelosi was attacked in San Francisco, California while at his family’s home. The intruder broke into the house shouting “Where’s Nancy?! Where is Nancy?!”, but at the time she was in Washington, DC.

The investigation is ongoing, but it is already known that the attacker entered through the back door of the house.

After a wake-up call at 2:27 p.m. (10:27 a.m. Lisbon), police arrived at Pelosi’s residence, the door of which was open, to find Paul Pelosi and Depape wrestling at the entrance, both grabbing the same hammer.

From overseas, the attacker was ordered to drop the victim, at which point he hit Pelosi “at least” once. It was then that the police moved “immediately”, seized his weapon and arrested him.

The speaker of the House’s husband was taken to Zuckerberg General Hospital, successfully operated on for a skull fracture and treated for multiple injuries to his right arm and hands.

The attack took place less than two weeks before 11 November.

In a letter to members of the House of Representatives last Saturday, Pelosi said her husband’s condition is improving, but her children and grandchildren are “disappointed and traumatized.”

Pelosi also thanked police and medical professionals for the “life-saving medical care” her husband is receiving.
