West Midlands police open a murder investigation after a series of stab wounds in Birmingham In the city center, one person was killed, two people were seriously injured and five were injured.

West Midlands police announced a major incident in downtown Birmingham after a series of injuries early Sunday morning.

The officers said they were initially called in to report injuries around 12:30 am Sunday morning, and “a number of other injuries” occurred between 12:30 and 2:20 am. The police said they were tied up and did their best to find those responsible.

They said they followed several lines of investigation and increased their armed presence in the city in uniform.

Ch Supt Steve Graham, Birmingham Police Officer, said: “The early hours of this morning are tragic, shocking and understandably frightening.

“Rest assured that we are doing absolutely everything in our power to find the culprit and try to understand what exactly happened.

“We have well-rehearsed plans for dealing with major incidents. Your safety is always our priority, so on the streets you will see the rise of officers.

In the meantime, we ask anyone who is in the city to remain vigilant and inform us about anything that is suspicious.

West Midlands Police Officer and Commissioner for Criminal Affairs David Jamieson said: “Last night’s events were truly terrible and shocked the people of Birmingham, the West Midlands and the country.

“My first thoughts now are about the victims and their families.

“I have full faith in the West Midlands police who are working very quickly on this investigation.

“I am also grateful to the emergency workers and hospitals who are working around the clock to help the injured.”
