In 2020, 35,451 out of 39,710 enrolled students passed the test. 4279 missing… That is 10.7% of subscribers.

In 2019, 72,910 out of 77,198 enrolled students were tested. Lost 4288. That is 5.6% of the enrolled. But in 2019, the exam was compulsory, as in the two years marked by the pandemic, students only had to pass the subject exam to enroll in higher education courses.

Also, according to the data compiled by the national exam jury, there were 12 admissions and three absences in the Portuguese midterm exam this year; in Portuguese second language 42 admissions and two absences.

Fatigue, indecision and covid-19

For the headmaster of the Benfica group of schools in Rosaria Alves, the explanation can be attributed to two factors: hesitation as to which course they want to take and whether they need an exam or not, and fatigue. “They are young, and there are children who, opening the registration platform, still have not decided, sometimes they have not decided until the last day. They sign up to keep the chance to go and decide at the last minute not to go, ”he says. However, remember that this year the exam does not count towards the internal average and, like the previous year, it is optional. In this context of the pandemic, students only need to pass the required exams in order to enroll in the desired courses. But what has changed since last year? “Children’s fatigue. I’m sure they got more tired this year. This year has been very difficult, and I believe that they are saved up only for those exams that they really need, “he notes,” about the opportunity for students to enroll when they have not yet decided to expand their choice, but then take only those tests they need. need to. they really need it.

The director of Escola Secundária de Camões also adds that there will be more students in isolation this year. There are about 300 enrolled in the school he runs, with about 60 left, and while there is still no definitive figure since students can still file returns, there could be about ten in this isolated situation.

According to Filinto Lima, president of the National Association of Group and Public School Principals, this increase can be attributed to a “combination of factors” including fatigue and the possibility that some young people are isolated.

Students infected with covid-19 during national exams can take tests in a second phase, scheduled for September, without prejudice to higher education enrollment. This measure extends not only to students who are infected, but to all those who suffer from problems associated with COVID-19, such as having a close family member or someone with whom they live in a hospital home, or who have recently had contact with a person with a confirmed diagnosis. positive diagnosis. If, for any of these reasons, the student is unable to attend the 1st stage of the national exams, he / she will automatically register for the 2nd stage at the beginning of September. In this case, students will be able to use this grade in the 1st stage of the national admission competition. Typically, students who take Stage 2 exams can only participate in Stage 2 of the national competition for access to higher education when fewer seats are available and some of the most popular courses already have nearly all courses. seats are sold out. This measure has already entered into force last year, when entrance exams to higher education institutions were held for the first time in a pandemic.
