More than $ 600 million was stolen in the largest hacker attack ever in the cryptocurrency market. The hackers allegedly took advantage of a vulnerability in the Poly Network, a platform that links various blockchains so that they can collaborate by announcing the theft on Twitter.

“Dear hacker, we are the Poly Network team. We want to establish a connection and ask you to return the stolen assets, “- can be read in a post on the social network, where he later said that he identified the source of the vulnerability between the contracts that allowed the hackers to enter. “The amount of money stolen is the largest in the history of decentralized finance.”

“The legal authorities of any country will consider this a serious economic crime and you will be held accountable. Making more transactions is very unwise. The money stolen by you belongs to hundreds of thousands of members of the crypto community, that is, people. You have to talk to us to work on a solution, ”he added.

Poly Network did not immediately reveal the amount, but security company SlowMist explained that more than $ 610 million worth of cryptocurrencies were transferred to three different addresses. “The SlowMist security team was able to intercept the device’s email, IP address and fingerprints, tracking both on and off the network and tracking possible clues about the Poly Network attacker’s identity,” he also said on Twitter.

The attack will be prepared and organized over a long period of time. Both companies asked trading platforms to blacklist the tokens, and cryptocurrency issuer Tether froze its $ 33 million involved in the attack.

Crypto exchanges such as Binance are also involved in the search for the hacker and stolen crypto assets. CEO Changpeng Zhao has already said he is aware of the attack. “Although no one controls the BSC [Binance Smart Chain] (or ETH), we are coordinating with all security partners to actively help. There are no guarantees. Let’s do our best, ”he wrote on the social network.
