It happened in Japan and shocked the world. A 9-year-old girl, under the influence of her mother, underwent eye surgery for the sole purpose of looking beautiful. This is a complex and painful operation that lasted two hours.
It was supposed to take 20 minutes, but things didn’t go as planned. The anesthesia also did not work, so the child felt everything. “If you can handle the pain of plastic surgery, that, in my opinion, makes you a beautiful person,” said the 9-year-old girl.
An interview of the mother and daughter is available on the VICE Asia Youtube channel and shows the procedure as well as statements from both of them who were striving to achieve “beauty standards”. They wanted to get rid of the child’s single eyelid and replace it with a double eyelid.
Ruchka’s mother claims that she had a bad childhood and that she suffered a lot because she did not have such eyes. “My mother and younger sister have big eyes, and I have one eyelid,” he complained. “Everyone thought my little sister was prettier than me,” he continued.
“Our neighbors called her beautiful and gave her sweets. They never told me anything,” she said, claiming she influenced her daughter to have the surgery to avoid future self-doubt: “I didn’t want her to grow up with a complex about it. That was my main concern.”.
Pens believes that plastic surgery is necessary. He did the same when he turned 18 and wished he had done it sooner. The mother-of-five believes that “a girl needs double eyelids” as she has never seen “a girl with one eyelid who she thought was beautiful”. Plastic surgery for minors is legal in Japan as long as have parental consent.
