Microsoft will disconnect legacy Outlook clients from 365 services on November 1st

For those who have not yet done away with old Outlook clients, Microsoft recommended moving to the Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription model, which provides always-on client software.

Last year, Microsoft ended support for older versions of Office connected to its services. onlinesuch as Exchange Online as of October 13, 2020. Affected Office releases include Office 2007, which is no longer supported. Office 2010, which is ending support on the same day, October 13; and Office 2013, which should receive support until April 2023. Support for support services ends in 2017.

At the time, Microsoft was surprisingly sympathetic, stating that although support was officially ended, it didn’t necessarily mean the end of the connection. “We will not take any proactive action to block other versions of the Office client, such as Office 2013, from connecting to Office 365 services, but these older customers may experience performance or reliability issues over time,” the then-company spokesman said. …

The November 1 deadline effectively disconnects older Outlook clients from Microsoft services. … Microsoft explained that older Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 clients will be incompatible with two upcoming service changes, including the end of support for basic authentication (essentially a long default username / password combination) that was delayed in February 2021, however Microsoft hasn’t announced when it will no longer support Basic authentication
