Merkel’s exposure of American espionage compromises Denmark

SAccording to the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung and the public television channels NDR and WDR, cited by the Spanish news agency Efe, Danish services helped the US National Security Agency (NSA) to wiretap the cell phones of Merkel and the then foreign minister. According to German media reports, the issue puts Denmark in a double position as a neighbor of Germany and a partner of the European Union (EU).

Denmark’s cooperation with the NSA made it possible to connect not only to Merkel’s phone, but also to the phones of other leaders of the Nordic countries, such as Sweden and Norway.
