Mercadona today opened a new supermarket in Leça da Palmeira, at Rua das Icas nº 307, one of the main access routes to the beaches. The new store, the second in the municipality of Matosinhos, will create about 65 jobs, “with open-ended contracts from day one to create local jobs,” the company said in a statement to Executive Digest.
According to the company, the store has a sales area of 1,900 m2, which includes sections for sausages, fish, confectionery and bakery, perfumery, butcher’s, vegetables and fruits and ready-to-eat meals with 41 different dishes. All of these options are served in packaging made from natural materials such as sugarcane (compostable material), cardboard or paper.
This store also has 130 parking spaces and 2 charging spaces for electric vehicles connected to the MOBI.E network.
“The 6.25 Store concept has already been implemented in this new supermarket and aims to educate customers and employees on the measures being taken to reduce plastics and recycling, so that customer comments can be heard on the ground. This concept is included in Strategy 6.25, which has a threefold goal of reducing 25% of plastic by 2025, making all plastic packaging recyclable and recycling all plastic waste generated at its factories, ”reads the note.
In line with the company’s Social Responsibility Policy, this new supermarket will, from day one, donate daily essentials to Obra do Padre Grilo, a non-profit organization with nearly 60 years of existence that accepts children and young people at risk and intends to provide their living conditions similar to the conditions of the family structure to promote their safety, health, learning, education,
