The election of the new Volt Europa leadership, Francesca Romana D’Antuono and Rainier van Lanchot as European co-presidents, took place at the General Assembly on Saturday and today at the Lisbon Congress Center and was attended by about 500 members. and about 18,000 more through digital means, the organization said.

According to the statement, in addition to the co-chairs, Anouk Ooms, Lucia Nass, Ines Consonni, Thor Larholm, Charles Ewein, Lucas Cornexl were elected, and Johannes Heinrich will be the treasurer.

The meeting also discussed the “Challenges of Europe” in a debate with the participation of former MEP and presidential candidate of the Republic in 2020 Ana Gomes and MEPs Damian Bozelager (Volt) and Francisco Guerreiro, who received in 2020 from “People-Animals-Nature” (PAN).

Volt Portugal also announced the future membership of Francisco Guerreiro, quoting the MEP’s statement in the communique: “My approach to the Volt is natural because it is an ecological and European movement that fights against populism and the most extreme ideologies in the European Union.”

“Regardless of my political and professional future, on the first day after my term ends, I will formally join Volt Portugal, ensuring that until then I will abide by the program for which I was elected, respecting the political priorities I have set for myself. … Prioritize those that largely align with the Volt’s vision, ”it says.

Volt Europe is a federalist and pan-European party that emerged internationally as a movement in March 2017 as a response to Brexit initiated by a collective of students in the United States.

Andrea Wenzon is the founder of this movement, which is already a political party in several European countries, namely Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, France, Great Britain or Sweden.

The movement, which originated in Portugal on December 28, 2017 and was officially recognized as a political party by the Constitutional Court in June 2020, has MEP Damian Bozelager, elected by Volt Germany in the May 2019 elections.
