Former Russian football player Igor Denisov this Wednesday criticized the invasion that Russia is carrying out in Ukraine, describing it as a “disaster”, “disaster and complete horror”. In an interview with YouTube channel Nobel, the former captain of the Russian national football team said that he was “a little scared” about what could happen to him after he makes his position on the war public.

“I’m not sure if I’ll go to jail or get killed, but I speak my mind”said Igor Denisov, who assured that, despite the fear of reprisals, he “won’t hide”: “I will not leave Russia. I’m not going anywhere because I don’t want to.”

Revealing that he had sleepless nights because of the war, the former captain of the Russian national team said he did not understand why Russia invaded Ukraine. “Maybe because I don’t know much, maybe because I don’t know much about history, but I don’t”he found it, noting, however, that he was “against the death of people”.

At the beginning of the conflict, Igor Denisov wanted to post a video on his social networks demonstrating his position against the war, with a direct appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, friends advised him not to, claiming that no one cares about his opinion.

The former football player remains convinced that the war must end and is “ready to kneel” before Vladimir Putin so that any conflict does not end.

The Russian parliament recently passed a law banning the spread of disinformation about the status of a special operation in Ukraine. Anyone who does so risks jail time of up to 15 years.
