Viñales’ death was the sixth on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit since its opening in 1985.

Spaniard Dean Berta Viñales, a cousin of MotoGP World Championship racer Maveric Viñales, was the third casualty this year in high-speed motorcycle racing alone.

The Spanish rider, 15, died this Saturday after a crash during the Supersport300 race at the Spanish circuit Jerez de la Frontera, in a category that also features Portuguese Miguel Santiago (Yamaha).

This year has been particularly unfortunate for both wheels as 14-year-old Spanish driver Hugo Milan has already passed away in July at the European Talent Cup race in Aragon, Spain.

Two months earlier, in May, Portuguese-born Swiss driver Jason Dupasquier had died in a Moto3 race at the World Motorsport Championships in Mugello, Italy.

Dupasquier, the son of a Portuguese mother, was 19 years old and was unable to resist injuries sustained in a collision with an opponent after crashing during the Italian Grand Prix qualifying session.

Viñales’ death was the sixth on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit since its opening in 1985.

In the first fatal accident, 21-year-old Spaniard Javier Moreno died in 1990 at the Andalusian championship.

In 1993, 25-year-old Japanese Noboyuki Wakai died in a race at the World Speed Championships.

In 2019, the victim was 14-year-old Spanish driver Marcos Garrido in the Supersport 300 championship race in Andalusia.

In 2020, 41-year-old former Spanish driver Ismael Bonilla died while in private practice.

In May of this year, while still on the Jerez circuit, the 43-year-old amateur racer died during another private test session.

The WSBK, the superbike world championship that includes the Supersport 300 category, paid tribute to Dean Berta Viñales with reactions from many riders and fans.
