The youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzai, is already a married woman, having tied the knot with Asser Malik at an Islamic ceremony in Birmingham, UK.

A 24-year-old Pakistani women’s rights activist said her wedding day was “a precious day” in her life. “Asser and I got married to be partners for life,” he tweeted after attending the nikka ceremony, which is not a legally binding contract but is the first step towards an Islamic wedding – Malala did not indicate if the couple was a civil ceremony separately.

Malala, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for defending girls’ right to education when she was just 15, fled to the UK after recovering from her injuries. Once on British soil, she went to study at Oxford University and became a leading human rights activist.

At 17, Malala became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

In recent years, a young Pakistani woman has asked for more support from Afghan refugees, signed with Apple TV + to produce documentaries and appeared on the cover of British Vogue.

Malala told Vogue that she didn’t understand “why people should get married.” “If you want someone in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t you just be a partner?”, he continued.

“My mom tells me things like … ‘Don’t you dare say any of this’ You must get married, marriage is beautiful'”he added.
