MAIA – The best start was the Portuguese representation at the second Maia Open. Lyings Faria had suffered a heavy defeat a week earlier, beating the Austrian. David Pichler at 7-5 and 6-3 and securing a round seat to access the main competition frame.

In today’s match, “Guimaraes” acted quite effectively in the so-called important points. He was beaten just three times out of Pichler’s 13 chances – who in the first Maia Open lost his spot in the first round of the main frame against James Casao -, was more solid from the end of the field and served at a good level, having released eight aces. Faria even ended the duel for five games in a row, recovering from the inconvenience of both games.

Last Monday Luis Faria spent 16 control points and fell in the second and final round of qualifying. This Monday you will have another chance to qualify for the ATP Challenger Tour for the first time (excluding lucky loser reached three times) when measuring forces with the Swiss Damien Wengerwho beat Italian today Simone Roncalli at 6-4 and 6-2. Wenger won his previous fight two years ago at the ITF in Nules, Spain.
