KaiOS loses some of the functionality of Google Assistant

The KaiOS system is used in entry-level devices, especially in simple mobile phone models for countries where smartphones are not common or cheap. It is based on Android and offers some features for those who just want something that “works”.

However, KaiOS still has some cool features like Google Assistant support. This allows the system to support a wide range of voice commands, which makes the system much easier to use, especially considering what devices are intended for this system.

However, today this feature becomes much more limited. Suddenly, Google Assistant on KaiOS lost the ability to receive voice commands to send text messages or make calls.

According to a statement from Nokia, one of the companies providing KaiOS-based devices, the change is due to changes in Google’s working API that do not allow device commands to be used on the system.

This is a significant loss, especially in the voice command system for sending messages. Many users have used Google Assistant as a way to type messages faster, instead of using old T9 keyboards.
