“Dear Rui,
Goodnight.
Following what I told you in the conversation we had this afternoon, I officially confirm my intention not to participate in the governing bodies of Sport Lisboa e Benfica or any structures in its business area.

The professional challenges I face are incompatible with the range of activities, and Sport Lisboa e Benfica always deserves maximum commitment from those who choose to devote themselves to it, with effective belligerence.

I am your friend and fan. Over the years, we have exchanged trust and nurtured complicity. We were together in difficult times. More has been done in recent weeks to restore Benfica’s democratic spirit than in many years.

You have an exciting process in your hands that deserves the support of all Benfica fans.
I hope he will be successful both in his personal life and in achieving the goals that will lead Benfica to return to its former greatness.

Congratulations.
Hug.
Jose Eduardo Moniz ”
