João Sousa drops to 173rd in world tennis rankings – Observer

This Monday, Portuguese player João Sousa dropped to 173rd in the world tennis rankings in a week in which the Top 10 remained unchanged, while Pedro Sousa remained in 127th place.

João Sousa, who became the Portuguese with the most Davis Cup singles victories last weekend in his 26th triumph in Romania, fell 23rd this Monday in the ATP hierarchyled by a Serb Novak Djokovicahead of Russian Daniil Medvedev and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who took second and third places, respectively.

Like a 32-year-old resident of Guimaraes, Frederic Silva he also dropped to 13th in the rankings and is now 197th.

Gastau Elias, on the other hand, went down just two steps and ended up in 217th place, while João Dominguez moved up three places and took 239th place. Nuno Borges, who made his Davis Cup debut Sunday playing doubles with João Sousa, dropped to 276th place to become the last Portuguese to make the World’s Top 300.

In the WTA hierarchy, also updated this Monday, Australian Ashley Barty remains number one, ahead of Belarusian Arina Sabalenko and Czech Karolina Plishkova.

While Czech Barbora Kreichikova and Pole Iga Svyatek moved up two levels to fifth and sixth, respectively, North American Sofia Kenin dropped to seventh, and Japanese Naomi Osaka finished eighth.
