The ad was given the title, “as devotion to George Floyd. #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd,” and quoted a part of the speech made by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Al. in 1965.
“So we will stand in the middle of a horse. We will stand here, in the middle of a belly club. We will stand here in the middle of a police dog, if they have it,” the King’s advertisement quoted. “We will stand in the middle of tear gas! We will stand in the midst of whatever they can gather, letting the world know that we are determined to be free!”
Together with Jay-Z, the letter was signed by parents from Botham Jean, DJ Henry and Antwon Rose II, black youths who were all tragically killed by the police, as well as Van Jones, Charlamagne tha God, Angela Rye, a lawyer for the Floyd Family , and some activists from organizations such as The Innocence Project and Before Freedom.
The ROC team (philanthropic branch of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation) joins the others to place advertisements in Tuesday’s edition of The New York Times, The Denver Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Austin American Statement, The Orlando Sentinel and The Atlanta Journal Constitution, among several other newspapers.
According to representatives for Jay-Z, there will be more advertisements published in newspapers on Wednesday.
