The head of state criticized the fact that the Brazilian criticized Brazil itself, which, according to him, does not happen in other countries.

“They complain that I didn’t go to Glasgow. They took an Indian there to replace Raoni [um dos principais líderes indígenas brasileiros]to attack Brazil. Has anyone seen the Germans attacking Germany’s fossil energy sources? Has anyone ever seen (anyone) attacking France because there is nothing like ours in environmental legislation? Nobody criticizes their country. Has anyone ever seen an American criticize California arson? It’s just here, ”Bolsonaro told his supporters in Brasilia.

The 24-year-old indigenous girl attended the opening of COP26 on Monday, representing the indigenous communities of Brazil, unlike Jair Bolsonaro, who was one of the main absentees at the summit.

A law student and young activist from the state of Rondonia, a young woman spoke at COP26 about the challenges facing Brazilian indigenous communities due to uncontrolled deforestation and the effects of climate change.

At the summit, Thay Surui, founder of the Rondonia Indigenous Youth Movement, criticized “empty lies and false promises” and advocated for indigenous peoples to participate in climate change decisions.

“I am only 24 years old, but my people have lived in the Amazon forests for at least six thousand years. My father, the great leader Almir Surui, told me that we should listen to the stars, the moon, the wind, animals and trees. Today the climate is getting warmer, animals are disappearing, rivers are dying, and our crops are not blooming like they did in the past. The Earth says: it tells us that we have no more time, ”she said, quoting the newspaper O Globo.

The indigenous surui or paiter surui live in the border region between the states of Rondonia and Mato Grosso. Before contact with the white civilization, this ethnic group had about 5,000 members, but now they do not reach 1,000 people.
