This Saturday (November 19), politicians celebrated from right to left the Day of the Brazilian Flag. Following an election campaign that has associated the green and yellow colors of the national flag with President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), allies of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) are trying to demarcate Bolsonaro’s patriotic symbols. On the other hand, the thesis that the flag is an allegory of resistance to left-wing governments.
“Today is the day of our flag that will never be red,” state MP Bruno Engler (LP), one of Bolsonaro’s main supporters in Minas Gerais, tweeted.
Senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), who also commented on Flag Day on social media, finished third in the first round of the presidential race. According to emedebist, Supporter of Lula in the second roundthe highest symbol of the country “has neither a party nor an owner”.

Senator-elect Wellington Diaz (PT-PI), a member of the Political Council of Lula’s transitional cabinet, takes the opposite tone. “The flag belongs to all Brazilian men and women scattered not only in Brazil but throughout the world. Our flag,” he said.

“The green and yellow flag of the entire Brazilian people,” agreed Federal MP Reginaldo Lopez, who heads the PT bench in the chamber.
State MP Alana Passos (PTB-RJ), in turn, used the national date to praise Bolsonaro. “During these four years in power, we had a man who sincerely respected our greens and yellows, saved patriotism and pride that we are Brazilians.”

Bolsonaro and the flag
Bolsonaro’s latest Twitter post, by the way, is related to the Brazilian flag. On November 8, he published a photo in which he appears in front of the image of the national pavilion.
During the election period, Bolsonaro ordered installation of giant versions of the national flag at the Planalto Palace and at the Alvorada Palace in Brazlia (DF). Pavilion on the Plateau tore apart due to strong wind.
