The City of Porto has been selected as the World’s Best Urban Destination 2022 at the World Travel Awards held on Friday in Muscat, Oman, Porto City Council announced today.
The municipality said in a statement that Porto has been named the world’s best urban destination for 2022, ahead of cities such as Acapulco, Cancun and Mazatlán (Mexico), Bogota (Colombia), Quito (Ecuador), Cape Town (South Africa). ), Nairobi (Kenya), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Las Vegas, Miami and New York (United States of America), Hanoi (Vietnam), Hong Kong (China), Melbourne and Sydney (Australia), Queenstown (New Zealand) ). ), London (England), Lyon (France), Marrakech (Morocco) and Lisbon.
The World Travel Awards, which are “considered the ‘Oscars’ of tourism,” brought together top decision makers and prominent figures in the industry.
The Councilor in charge of Tourism and Internationalization of the Chamber of Porto, Catarina Santos Cunha, received the award on behalf of the municipality, and the ceremony was also attended by the president of the Porto Tourism Association, Luis Pedro Martins.
Voting for the World Travel Awards was open to the public until November 20, with Porto also in contention for the title of World’s Best Heritage City.
The World Travel Awards includes the entire travel sector, from hotels, destinations, airlines and tour operators.
