Despite its popularity, since it was acquired by Facebook (now Meta), Instagram has gone on a path of copying some of its competitors’ features.
First with Stories (copied from Snapchat) and most recently with Reels (copied from TikTok). If in the case of Snapchat this led to the fact that applications for smartphones of many users practically “disappeared”, then this effect did not happen with TikTok.
Perhaps with that in mind, Instagram is testing a feature that increasingly confirms its “tiktokization”. Via Twitter, the official Instagram account reveals that a full-screen version of the channel is coming soon.
Fullscreen feed being tested by Instagram
“We want to make it easy for you to find content and connect with your friends. Photos continue to be an important part of Instagram, and we’re working to improve their display in full screen.”
Instagram says that this way of viewing content in the social network feed will soon be available to some users. A design that clearly draws inspiration from TikTok.
As you can see in the image, this design takes up the entire screen, all the way to the top. In addition to the content, there is also the option of accessing the description, comments, sharing, or simply liking the content.
While this is clearly a copy of what TikTok is doing, the big question for Instagram users is: do you like this change to the social media feed? Let us know in the comments.
