President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a candidate for re-election, participates this Saturday (15) in a political act in Atlantic City, located in the southeastern region of Teresina. Amid cries of “myth”, the president was greeted by a crowd on Friday evening (14) as he landed at Senador Petronio Portella airport. Bolsonaro visited the capital Piauí for the first time since his election in 2018.

The candidate for re-election has sharply criticized his main opponent, former President Lulu (PT). Bolsonaro named P.T. “thief” and said that his place was in “prison”. He recalled the actions taken during his administration, including the creation of an Auxílio Brasil for families in need during the pandemic and investments in the Northeast Region, the main stronghold of the PT. The President also asked for votes to win the 2nd round, which is considered one of the fiercest since the redemocratization.

During his speech, Bolsonaro defended the conservatives and stated that former President Lula, if elected, “wants to return to the scene of the crime.” In the first round, the PT beat the PL candidate, who is seeking re-election. The difference was over 6 million votes.

Bolsonaro arrived in Atlantic City around 9:50 am. Allies and supporters of the president are on stage, among them the chief minister of the civil chamber, Ciro Nogueira, the president of the LP state, Samantha Cavalca, Iracema Portella, Joel Rodriguez (PP) and others. As soon as he took the stage, the PL candidate was greeted with applause and cheers from the militants.

Silvio Mendez (University), who won 2nd place in the state debate, was not present at the event. He was expected to take part in the action, especially after he announced his support for Bolsonaro’s candidacy in the 2nd round against Lula (PT). After the electoral events in Terezina, the President will leave for Fortaleza (CE) in the afternoon.

In search of Piauí voters, especially the undecided ones, Bolsonaro visits Teresina less than 15 days before the second round of elections. For the first time, a dispute will be settled between two names that once ruled the country. In Piauí, the president received 19.90% of the vote in the 1st round against 74.25% for ex-president Lulu (PT).

Around 8 a.m., the Atlantic City gates opened to the public. The supporters wore Brazilian-colored T-shirts and stickers in favor of the president. In an interview with A10+, Colonel Diego Melo (PL) stated that he is confident that Bolsonaro will win more votes in this 2nd round in Piauí. He also criticized former President Lulu (PT).

A president who defends God, country, family and freedom, and today is a candidate against a former prisoner accused of several crimes and trying to deceive the people of Piauí, but will not. We will have an overwhelming majority here compared to the 1st round, I have no doubt about that. Piauhi wakes up and sees the risk of falling into the abyss of communism if he votes for an ex-convict,” he said.
