A jury trial of four accused of the crime began on Tuesday (21) in Rio Negro (PR). Among the accused are the former mayor of Pien, Gilberto Dranka, and the then chairman of the Chamber, Leonides Maahs, who are considered by the public ministry to be the masterminds of the killings. Two other men were supposed to commit crimes. The Military Brigade (WB) did not report which of the contractors was arrested in RS.

Dranka’s defense considers the accusation “baseless”. Maas’ lawyer says there is no evidence that the client was involved in the killings.

B.M. received from the authorities of Parana and Santa Catarina information about the defendant’s whereabouts. The fugitive used the identity of another person and worked in the city of Rio Grande do Sul. Approaching closer, the accused introduced himself as a fictitious person and tried to flee the scene, being detained by the military police.

The families of the victims accompany the jury in Paraná. “We have been waiting for justice, not revenge, for almost six years,” says the sister of then-mayor-elect Rosimery Dreweck.

The trial of the former mayor of Pien, accused of ordering the assassination of the mayor elected in 2016, begins in Paraná.

The victim was driving with his family to Santa Catarina on PR-420 when a motorcyclist took him by surprise and shot him in the head. Drewek died three days later in the hospital.

Security technician Genecio Almeida was mistakenly killed in the attack, according to the indictment.

Gilberto Dranka was discovered by police on January 31, 2017 while hiding in the cladding of a house. The politician was mayor of the municipality from 2009 to 2016 and is at large as he is monitored by an electronic bracelet.
