Technology billionaire Ted Waitt, who in the 80s founded the computer hardware giant Gateway Inc., bought Malibu land from fashion designer James Perse for $ 34.2 million, according to unauthorized sources commenting on the deal.

Perse has owned plantations for about a decade, according to property records. Off-market sales closed in mid-June but only appeared in public records.

Located on a 1.25 hectare cliff in the Point Dume area, this contemporary one-story has beautiful sea views from the interior of the house, decks and yards.

Pieces of surfboard accents and furniture from the Perse home collection are combined with lightweight wooden floors and wood trimmed walls and ceilings for a relaxed atmosphere. The living room includes an open living / dining room, a chef’s kitchen and a game / workroom. There are four bedrooms and five bathrooms plus a separate guesthouse.

Outside, beside the lawn and spa, there is an outdoor kitchen. At the far end of the property, a fenced staircase descends to the beach below.

The house appeared for sale last year for $ 40 million but was recently offered to rent for $ 125,000 a month, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Waitt founded Gateway on his family’s livestock farm in North Dakota. He left the company in 2005. Among wealthy Americans, he operates Avalon Capital Group, a private investment company, along with several philanthropic companies.

Perse, the son of Maxfield’s founder, Tommy Perse, launched a T-shirt line that will be the cornerstone of his brand in 1994 and opened his first retail store in 2003. In addition to clothing, he has developed an eponymous lifestyle brand that includes linen. and furniture
