People with capillary extravasation syndrome should not take the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine, Infarmed warned after a European regulator said.

The National Medicines Agency said Friday that the European Medicines Agency (EMA), following an investigation, concluded that people who already had capillary extravasation syndrome (CLS) should not get the Vaxzevria vaccine, advocating that the disease has been added to the package insert. as a new unwanted effect of the vaccine.

According to Infarmed, the European regulator for the drug conducted an in-depth analysis of six cases in people vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, most of which occurred in women and within four days of vaccination. Three had a history of this syndrome, and one of the cases was “fatal.”

Capillary extravasation syndrome “a very rare but serious condition” characterized by “leakage of fluid from small blood vessels (capillaries) into surrounding tissues, resulting in edema, especially in the arms and legs, a drop in blood pressure, blood thickening and a decrease in albumin levels”… Therefore, healthcare professionals must “be aware of the signs and symptoms of CLS and the risk of relapse in people previously diagnosed with the disease,” warns Infarmed. in a statement, explaining that patients with “acute episode of CLS after vaccination require immediate treatment and may require specialized follow-up and intensive supportive care.”

An authority note says people who have received this immunization should seek immediate medical attention if they have “sudden swelling of the hands and feet or sudden weight gain in the first days after vaccination,” explaining that these symptoms “are often associated with with a feeling of fainting (lowering of blood pressure) “.

The EMA’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) has requested additional information from AstraZeneca on the possible mechanism of this disease after vaccination.
