Half-Life 2 Receives Biggest Update In Years (And It’s Not Episode 3)

No guys! This is not Episode 3… But even so, the classic shooter from Valve,Half life 2‘is receiving a very important update 17 years after its first release, including increased field of view (FOV), Vulkan support, and old bug fixes. Patch subtly uploaded to the beta branch make the gamethat players can subscribe to by selecting the appropriate option on the Properties tab in Steam.

As reported PC gamerThe new update was originally developed by YouTube and fan Tyler McVeeker (see below), which he calls “the largest patch a game has received in at least a decade.”

While the update will likely keep one of Valve’s most beloved games running smoothly on the company’s handheld console, o Steam DeckThere have been some efforts to adapt Half-Life 2 for today’s PC gamers. The patch, for example, increases the FOV limit to 110, fixes a number of bugs that seemed to remain unresolved for years, and includes many fixes designed to support ultra-wide displays.

The new update also includes support for the Vulkan Graphics Rendering API, which has better compatibility with Linux based systems such as SteamOS on the Steam Deck. Portal 2, also from Valve, was updated earlier this year in the same way to support Vulkan, and it is likely that other games in the developer’s library will receive the same treatment thanks to the handheld console.

In the video, McVicker explains that the beta update has some issues and is not yet ready for release. However, curious players can check out the changes made to Half-Life 3 through the update right now by choosing download via steam… Hopefully the patch will be a big addition when Steam decks hit the market in December.
