GGND (Galp Gás Natural Distribuição) presented last Friday in Seixal the first project in Portugal to introduce green hydrogen into the gas network, a project funded by the Foundation for the Support of Innovation (FAI).

The Green Gas Pipeline Project, which was attended by Joao Galamba, Undersecretary of State for Energy, will reach 80 residential, tertiary and industrial consumers who will start receiving a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen from January 2022, “thus taking an important step in the process energy transition in Portugal, ”reads the released note.

At the initial stage of the project, 2% of hydrogen will be injected into the natural gas network, gradually increasing this percentage to a maximum of 20% over two years. “The whole process will be monitored and closely monitored by a team of experts, so this project can serve as a good practice example for many other projects that will certainly be implemented in the future, both nationally and internationally,” except.

Green hydrogen, a 100% renewable fuel, will be produced at the Seixal Industrial Park in the Setubal area through a partnership between GGND and the Portuguese company Gestene.
