Greece builds 40 km wall to keep Afghans out

A Greece decided to build a wall about 40 km long and install a surveillance system on the border with Turkey to prevent the entry of Afghan refugees.

Asked about the fence, built in record time, Greek Citizens Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said the country “cannot passively wait for the impact” of the Taliban’s takeover of power.

“Our borders will remain intact,” a government official said, expressing concern over the wave of Afghan refugees who appear to be arriving in Europe soon.

Greece, which was already at the forefront of the migration crisis in 2015, when more than a million people fled war and poverty in the Middle East and entered the European Union through Turkey, says Michalis Chrysochoidis, “will send out of return any Afghan who illegally arrives in the country “.

Remember that the rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban made some citizens fear for their lives and made them try to flee the country at any cost. Some even died while trying to get onto the landing echelons of planes that landed in Kabul.
