“Liar” had been painted in excess of the phrases “martyr” and “when the truth” on a wall at the Centere de la Mémoire, a memory middle honoring those slain in the World War II massacre that took area in the village exactly where the center is positioned, said Philippe Lacroix, the mayor of Oradour-sur-Glane.
The president of the center informed Lacroix of the incident on Friday, Lacroix advised CNN affiliate BFMTV.
Police are seeking for those responsible, Lacroix claimed, but it was clear to him that it was plainly “support for a denier.”
The village of Oradour-sur-Glane was the website of a massacre in Earth War II, when German troops wrecked the entire village on June 10, 1944, killing 642 men and women.
The Elysee introduced a statement about the incident, stating that French President Emmanuel Macron “condemns this unspeakable act in the strongest achievable terms. He gives his full assist to the mayor and the municipality. He assures them that almost everything will be completed so that the perpetrators of this act are brought to justice.”
“I learned with anger and consternation of the degradation of the memory center of Oradour-sur-Glane. To sully this put of refuge is also to sully the memory of our martyrs. Anything is staying done to assure that the perpetrators of these notorious functions are brought to justice,” he mentioned.
The vandalism is the hottest anti-Semitic incident in the region, which has seen a rise in anti-Semitism in the latest years.
