On the eve of the submission of a new draft, this time a single text on the regionalization of sanitation in the Assembly, to be delivered to the Chamber by Friday, the government of Rio Grande do Sul undertook a political and symbolic movement, also aimed at minimizing the resistance surrounding the topic. … Acting in Piratini, in the presence of Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), ten municipalities signed a commitment to Korsan… Five of them have already signed an addendum to the contract.

Both the changes to two original bills sent to the Legislative Assembly and today’s ceremony in Piratini represent an attempt by the executive to obtain the signatures of the amendments and the votes needed to approve the new text sent out. Resistance is not limited to mayors, but is also present among MPs, including from allies of the executive branch. Other strategies have been implemented to encourage mayors to join by December 16. For them, the service charge will remain unchanged until 2027, and the municipalities will have access to the company’s shares, which will be listed on the stock exchange in February 2022.

According to the chief secretary of the Civil Chamber, Arthur Lemos, these initiatives represent the government’s desire to work out joint solutions. “This topic has been discussed since 2018. With the formation of a group in search of alternatives, we strive for a minimum consensus for promotion. Unfortunately, municipalities that do not join will face losses and difficulties in providing services to the population, ”he said in an interview with the Esfera Pública program on Rádio Guaíba. Since the new bill goes to parliament on an urgent basis, Piratini’s intention to tackle the issue this year in the normal period, before the break is evident.
