Google has confirmed that it will launch the new Privacy Sandbox platform for a limited number of Android 13 devices starting in early 2023. It was a measure the company had been expecting for some time, but early next year. will start reaching more users.

BUT Privacy Sandbox it is a set of Google technologies that were disclosed in February of this year and aimed at limiting the ability of users to track within the system. This provides tools and services that can provide more control over user data in the Android ecosystem – something similar to what Apple is already doing on iOS.

According to the company, the idea is to start providing the Privacy Sandbox beta for Android 13 users from next year. Initially, this offer will be limited to some users and devices, but it is expected to eventually reach more users in general.

App developers are encouraged to update their apps to integrate with the new APIs as well as help Google move to the next phase of delivery.

It should be noted that not everyone understands these new technologies. DuckDuckGo has stated in the past that the “privacy sandbox” is simply a new way for Google to gain even more control over user data and how it collects it, without guaranteeing more privacy for end users.

Meanwhile, Brave notes that this system does end up providing little privacy, and continues to focus on the idea that Google has even more control over how user data is centralized and how it collects it.
