Jennifer Wenisch, a 30-year-old German convert to Islam, was sentenced this Monday to 10 years in prison for war crimes and crimes against humanity for the murder of a 5-year-old girl, Yazidi, who was chained. the sun is dying.

The woman was found guilty of enslaving another Yezidi woman and her five-year-old son and of inaction while her husband tied her to a window outside the house with a temperature of about 50 degrees Celsius – punishment for bedwetting. The murder took place in the Iraqi city of Fallujah.

“The victim was defenseless and unaided,” Judge Joachim Bayer said in a verdict quoted by The Telegraph. “From the outset, it was to be expected that a child tied to the scorching sun would be in danger of life. But [Ela] she did nothing to help, although it was possible and reasonable. ” Jennifer Venisch was also found guilty of threatening the child’s mother, who desperately mourned her daughter, who was supposed to remain in the couple’s service.

Venish converted to Islam in 2013 and then went to Iraq when he married Taha al-Jumaili, who is part of the Islamic State (EI) jihadist group. The court concluded that, as a member of this group, the woman supported the “enslavement of the Yezidi people” and tried to “destroy the Yezidi religion.” Venish even tried to argue for her defense, saying that it is almost impossible to prevent the murder of a child, because as a woman she cannot challenge her husband.
