George Floyd and Derek Chauvin reportedly “hit their heads” while working with security at a nightclub years before their fatal meeting.

A co-worker at El Nuevo Rodeo on Lake Street in southern Minneapolis revealed that the shaky history of both was recognized in interview with CBS News.

Tension, David Pinney told the outlet, “a lot of his relationship with Derek became very aggressive in the club with some customers, which is a problem.”

Club owner, Maya Santamaria, before told the local KSTP outlet that Floyd and Chauvin overlapped shifts on the night of popular music in the past year.

Santamaria said that Chauvin was on guard outside, acting as “police off duty” for 17 years, while Floyd worked inside.

He also said he wasn’t sure if Floyd and Chauvin knew each other – but Pinney was sure they knew.

Pinney told CBS that Chauvin “knew him … quite well,” referring to Floyd.

Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree murder in Floyd’s death on May 25.

Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder, but the accusations were raised after protests from the Floyd family and other supporters. Floyd’s family lawyer, Benjamin Crump, even called for first-degree murder charges since learning the two worked together.

Before the indictment was escalated from third-degree to second-degree murder, he told CBS News that “we believe [Chauvin] know who George Floyd is. “
