Increasing the number of women candidates requires institutional incentives from increasingly influential parties. In the last elections in 2020, Porto Alegre secured the first place among the capitals, with the largest representation of women in the city council, with 30.55% of the parliamentary quorum represented by 11 councilors, for a total of 36 seats.
“Talking to leaders, inviting them to join and participate in party affairs on a daily basis are the first steps for future candidates,” says Leticia Vargas, president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rio Grande do Sul, in front. launching “PSD Mulher Conecta”, a project that promotes action to strengthen the feminine core of the acronym and arouses the interest of future affiliates.
“Women in politics have a duty to encourage other women,” says the party leader. The initiative’s first event will be broadcast live next Tuesday via the party’s digital platforms with former Sao Paulo Mayor Alda Marco António. “The first guest is one of the strongest party leaders in the fight against the murder of women and the equal participation of men and women in politics,” emphasizes Leticia.
