Startups, universities, clients and other technology partners. These are the goals of Upcoming Energies, a joint innovation platform launched Tuesday by Galp that aims to accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality.

The initiative was presented at a web summit that runs until Thursday in Lisbon by Galp CEO Andy Brown.

The company said in a statement that the platform “will be part of Galp’s renaissance, based on an investment of capital for innovation and research and development, which is valued at € 180 million by 2025.” The main goal of the new instrument “is to attract and increase investment in innovation for Galp’s clear mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.” Through the partnership, Galp proposes to create “a robust and efficient ecosystem in which customers, startups, suppliers, universities, R&D partners and investors work together to accelerate the transition to energy.” The initiative will be open to both Portuguese and Brazilian ecosystems.

These initiatives, which will begin in 2022, will take the form of partnerships, education programs, acceleration programs and investments in new startups “that are developing new digital solutions and transforming energy.”

The company wants to attract startups, companies, universities, investors and other partners to share “its vision and its solutions.” The selected ideas will receive support from Galp “to develop, validate and scale up with a core mission of accelerating the energy transition towards carbon neutrality that the Portuguese company wants to achieve.”

The platform will be developed in Portugal and Brazil, but the oil company’s intent is to open up the Galp network in 10 countries, “connecting the global ecosystem of energy transition innovation, dedicated leadership and response every step of the way.”

“Galp has ambitious goals to drive the energy transition, we want to accelerate the process and build the future with a systematic and systematic approach to collaboration, an approach that brings together cutting edge technology and talent to help us achieve these ambitious goals,” said Andy Brown. , CEO of Galp, cited in the same note.
