At dawn, in front of a restaurant where a gypsy family was celebrating the wedding, in Torrejon de Ardoz, in the Madrid region, a fight broke out. Then “there was a deliberate hit-and-run and the people in the car fled,” a spokesman for the National Police told AFP.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found four dead with multiple fractures,” Carlos Polo, head of emergency services in Madrid, told reporters. Spanish daily newspaper ABC adds that this is a 70-year-old woman, two men aged 60 and 40, and a 17-year-old boy.

We also “located and treated four severely injured people with head injuries and lower limb fractures” who were transferred to local hospitals, Polo added.

Three others were slightly injured, Juan José Crespo, who is in charge of security at the municipal council of Torrejon de Ardoz, told public television, specifying that none of the seven injured were in danger of death.

ABC also reports that an hour later, 40 kilometers from the crime scene, the Civil Guard detained three suspects in the crime: a 35-year-old Portuguese man and two Spanish minors, 17 and 16 years old, who will be children of an adult in Seseña, near Toledo.

They were arrested for driving a Toyota Corolla with a broken windshield, without a front bumper and with traces of blood on the car’s dashboard. The occupants of the car had to cut holes in the windshield to see ahead, and 10, 20, 50 and 100 euro notes were hidden under the driver’s seat. Authorities are still looking for the nephew of an adult who escaped on foot during detention.

The fourth passenger of the car fled, suspecting that this was the nephew of the Portuguese.

The police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the events leading up to the hit-and-run.
