Federation says 2022 Doctor’s Day will have more political focus
To commemorate Physician’s Day this Tuesday (18), members of this category are highlighting the Proposed Physician Health Agenda in Brazil to improve the care and well-being of Brazilians. “This year, more than in others, the celebration has a political focus,” says the National Federation of Physicians (Fenam).
The document, containing a number of proposals aimed at inclusion in state programs, was sent in the form of a letter to all candidates for the presidency of the republic during the first round of elections.
The proposals are divided into seven axes, covering topics such as the right to health, respect for medical care, strengthening the Unified Health System (THEM) and improving the infrastructure and working conditions of specialists.
Among the proposals are an increase in the participation of the state in the financing of the USS and the expansion of control and inspection mechanisms. The organizations are also asked to maintain and improve the Doctors for Brazil program and create a public career for doctors working in the public network.
Physicians also demand that the autonomy and exemption of the National Supplementary Health Agency be guaranteed (ANSWER), to protect the public interest and rights of patients; and ending government subsidies to private health and insurance plans.
“The implementation of the proposals presented here, as well as the opportunity for dialogue that opens up from them, will allow compliance with the guidelines and constitutional principles governing assistance in public, additional and private networks. This attitude will be fundamental to ensuring the rights of patients and the quality of medical and healthcare practice in the country,” the excerpt from the agenda emphasizes.
The National Federation of Physicians (Fenam), the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), the National Association of Resident Physicians (ANMR), the Federal Medical Council (CFM) and the Brazilian Medical Federation (FMB) signed the letter. (Cayo Matos)
