A few months later, the court hearing the case ruled in favor of the FTC.

According solution from Judge James Boasberg of the District Court for the District of Columbia, the FTC can now pursue an antitrust case against the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, which could force it to sell Instagram and WhatsApp. In August, the FTC accused it is illegal for the company to acquire both platforms that were its “competitors” in order to maintain its monopoly.

Last October, Meta petitioned a U.S. court not to consider the FTC’s complaint, arguing that the arguments presented lacked substantive support and that the organization had failed to credibly prove that the company was acting unlawfully. The appeal was dismissed by a new court decision.

An antitrust case against Meta’s practices could be filed, but the FTC will have to provide more evidence to force the company to sell the platforms.

in statements JSC “Washington Post”Chris Sgro, a spokesman for Meta, says the company believes future evidence presented by the FTC will demonstrate “the weakness of its own arguments.” “Our investments in Instagram and WhatsApp have made the platforms what they are today,” the spokesperson said.
